Another of Halberstam's books, The Reckoning, was on the rise of the Japanese automobile industry and the stagnation and fall of its previously dominant U.S. counterpart.
Halberstam told the industry story by telling the stories of the then number two companies, Ford and Toyota (then Nissan).
This morning's news reports that Toyota is now the largest car manufacturer, having surpassed General Motors.
One of those weird coincidences.
