County Legislative Races

On the Democratic side, there are 11 primary races for the Albany County Legislature, several of them involving an incumbent.

As always, there are some classical local political stories out there. We'll comment on three:
  • In the 2nd District, Lucille McKnight, the incumbent is being challenged by Lester Freeman. McKnight cares about her neighborhood and works well with others. She's the new President of the State Association of Counties.

  • In the 8th District, there's a three way race and it's already gotten nasty between two of the candidates, Ken Barnes and Jennifer Muthig. The third candidate, Doug Bullock is a hard-core progressive. He has boundless energy and is devoted to labor and worker issues. If you live in the 8th, ignore the fight and support Bullock. If nothing else, he'll be entertaining to watch.

  • The 39th District is in Berne, up in the hills. The fight there is between Alexander, "Sandy" Gordon and Kevin Crosier. Gordon, the incumbent is a local farmer. Crozier is the Berne Town Supervisor. They had an earlier fight when Crosier tried to merge the Town highway department into the County's so that both the Town and County could save a bunch of dough. He lost and Gordon was one of the reasons.

If you're enough of a political junkie to be reading this, we probably don't have to tell you to be sure to vote.

How nice of you to list the primaries that I blogged about without saying who mentioned them on his blog -- or any of the bios of the candidates.

See nycowboy.org for my scoop on the issues.

When you stop being a political hack for the Breslins and take a serious look at the issues, then we'll talk again. But it would be nice if you least linked my blog.

Dear Mr. Cowboy,

Because we both commented on two primary races, I'm copying you? Hell, we even agreed on one of them.

Don't be so full of yourself. I asked the question a month ago (follow the links) how many Legislative primaries there were. I finally got around to answering the question by going to the Board of Election site, which if you'd bothered looking at, I also linked to.

At least my site allows comments. Why doesn't yours?

Lighten up man. This is the web. Just because you love it, don't assume we all read your deathless prose.

Nice pics BTW.

Your depiction of the nastiness in the 8th LD is grossly inaccurate. If anything, Ken Barnes and Jennifer Muthig tried to stay above the fray.

Doug Bullock on the other hand published literature attacking Jennifer, accusing her of being a "lobbyist legislator", amongst other insults. He had volunteers calling voters and bashing Jen as the "machine candidate". Anybody who lives in the district will handily recognize that the only machine in place during this election was the Working Sham-ilies Thugs in their quest to install leftist candidates that don't represent the views of mainstream voters.

Jen had the backing of local democrats, no help from the party, and did not participate in any "machine". Doug Bullock led a negative campaign from the start, Jennifer and Ken have had and continue to have a positive relationship that involves real solutions to local problems enacted through attainable goals. And on the other end you have "Bullhorn Bullock", proclaiming he will deadlock the legislature to end the war, give you universal health care, and re-establish a safety corridor that has already been re-established.

If Doug was half the local candidate either Jennifer of Ken are - he wouldn't have had to cheat at the polls...
