It pains me to say so, but tonight Keith Olbermann is right about the Democratic leadership in Washington.
The painfully funny thing is that throughout this entire Iraq debacle and, come to think of it for years before, the fear shared by many DC Democrats of appearing "weak on defense" has made them appear plain weak.
The more the DC Dems try to look strong, the weaker they look and are. The politics are not about policy positions across the entire spectrum (though they are for some). Instead, it's the Gestalt of the thing. The public perceives weakness of character. Hell, if the DC Dems will cave to a petulant child with 30% approval ratings, why should anyone believer they won't cave in to a real threat.
Act strong. The appearance will take care of the rest.
